How Truth Hunter works
Truth Hunter helps you examine factual claims using fresh web evidence. It does not ask you to trust an AI or promise absolute truth.
From claim to assessment
Type a claim or upload an image containing text. We rewrite it as a clear question and ask you to confirm that we understood it correctly.
We search the web for relevant material, open useful pages, and compare evidence that supports, contradicts, or adds context to the claim.
You receive an assessment, an evidence balance, a confidence level, the strongest arguments on each side, and links to the original sources.
Where the evidence comes from
Our first search route is SearXNG, a privacy-respecting search tool that gathers results from public search engines. If that route finds no useful evidence, Truth Hunter can use the official Brave Search API as a limited fallback.
A search result is only a candidate. Truth Hunter still checks whether the page is relevant and useful for the specific claim.
How AI is used
AI helps clarify claims, create search queries, read source material, and summarize relevant evidence. The service can move to another configured provider when one is unavailable or rate-limited.

AI does not choose a truth percentage
AI describes evidence in a structured form. Truth Hunter's own versioned rules calculate the evidence balance and confidence, and may return Inconclusive when the evidence is weak or conflicting.
Images and copied screenshots
Images are read locally with Tesseract OCR in English and Hungarian. The image is discarded after text extraction; only the extracted claim text continues through the confirmation flow. Truth Hunter does not identify people or determine whether an image was manipulated.
Important limitations
Web pages can be wrong, unavailable, outdated, or difficult to access. AI can also misunderstand text. Always inspect the cited sources, especially for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.
Privacy and transparency
Uploaded claim images are not retained. Investigation snapshots keep the claim and the evidence needed to explain the result. We do not expose private AI reasoning; instead, we show the sources, scores, method version, and understandable explanation.
Help us improve
Use Helpful or Not helpful on a result. If something looks wrong, check the evidence links and send the public investigation link to the project owner with a short explanation.
